what isn't win-win?
Sometimes, when something is hard to define, it can be easier to explain it by detailing what it is NOT. Some things can only be made clear by the negative space they create.
So for clarity, here are some things Win-Win is NOT:
1) Win-Win is NOT anti-competition. Quite the opposite! Win-Win loves games and sports; which by design have pockets of intentional win-lose games with scoring and prizes to drive action.
However, the key question we should always be asking is:
How much competition is optimal right now, given the three objectives? Is the task at hand best achieved via competition, collaboration, or a mix of both?
A smart player is always asking themselves this question. Similarly, a truly Win-Win World is one that keeps its core objectives in mind when designing games for its players.
2) Win-Win is NOT some kum-bah-yah hippy circle of everyone in perfect agreement. Nor is it about perfectly equal outcomes.
A world where everyone thinks the same, acts the same, speaks the same and ends up the same would be extraordinarily boring because nothing new would ever happen — an ideological heat death of society. Win-Win loves weirdness, adaptation and variety, because those are the lifeblood of creativity.
3) Win-Win is NOT about finding one-size-fits-all solution to everything.
Given the complexity of the world, a simple solution to all our problems is incredibly unlikely... and if you’re here believing you already have all the answers, or worse, you’re looking for a trendy new religion to blindly follow the doctrines of, please look elsewhere.
Win-Win is about empowering YOU to figure out YOUR role(s) in building better systems for the world world. Which is important, because we have some bad guys to defeat.
Not just human bad guys. Real scary bad guys. Huge, formless and ancient bad guys.
That’s right, it’s time to meet the end-bosses.
